First BIG step

It takes courage to ask for help. Congratulations for taking this first step on your journey to rework how you look at what's troubling you and ultimately improve your mental health and wellbeing!

Types of counselling services

What do sessions look like?

Informed Consent

In our first session, I will outline the range of therapeutic approaches that I use, so that you will know what to expect and can make an informed decision about proceeding with therapy. I will ask that you sign a Consent form if you agree to start therapy.

Presenting Problem

Also in our first session, I will listen to you talk about the issue(s) you would like to discuss and your goals for therapy. I will prompt you for pertinent information and will summarize and share back what I heard, to make sure you are being fully understood.

Treatment Plan

Plans are completely tailored to your needs. I use a several  therapeutic approaches including narrative therapy, mindfulness, existentialism, solution-focused therapy, and CBT. I may use more than one approach during our time together. I usually suggest coming back every two to three weeks and often provide tasks that you can do between our appointments to stay on track.

End of Treatment

You ultimately decide when you have achieved your goals. Depending on the complexity of your case, it may only take a few appointments or several months. If I ever feel I have provided you with all the value that I can, I will let you know.
